HELPFUL HINTS AND TIPS

To help in the recycling and collection of your boxes we ask that you:
  • Remove tops from jars and bottles before recycling.
  • Empty and rinse jars, bottles and cans for hygiene reasons.
  • Remove plastic windows from envelopes.
  • You can put your recycling box out even if it is part full.
  • You should only recycle items listed in this leaflet and on your box.
  • Unlisted items will be left in the box.
  • It does not matter if the paper and other contents get wet - so you can still recycle when it is raining.
  • Please make sure your box is visible.

How to fill you Kerb-it box

Help us cut down on litter by putting your paper in the bottom of the box and weighing down with the glass and metal.

Please place paper at the bottom, with the glass and the squashed cans on top. This will greatly reduce the chance of your paper being blown out of the box by strong winds.

Are you filling your box - get as many boxes as you need

If you have more paper, glass or cans than will fit into the box, please just put them next to the recycling box in a carrier bag (one bag per item; in other words, all the tins in one bag, paper in another).

Or, if you regularly have extra paper, glass or cans please contact the helpline for another box. Helpline number: 0191 427 8050.

What about shredded paper?

Lots of people are shredding their paper for security reasons, you can still recycle this material. Put the shredded paper into a plastic bag and securely tie the top (not in a black bag - this might be confused with general waste) and put the bag in your box.

If you are not shredding your paper you mught like to take the precaution of ripping off any personal details on paper you are recycling.
